African tech news comes from many outlets, and the most useful coverage is not always the loudest. A simple weekly routine helps you find reliable stories and check them before you share them.
Pick two regular sources
Choose two outlets that report on Nigerian and African tech regularly, and check both once a week. Two sources let you spot a story that only one outlet has run.
Read the monthly reports
Monthly funding reports are useful because they show a pattern. Nairametrics reported on 12 October 2026 that Nigerian startups raised $11.3 million across nine companies in September, down from $364.1 million in August. A drop like that can come from one large deal in the previous month, so read the detail before you draw a conclusion.
Check the company or regulator
When a story says a company raised money or a regulator changed a rule, look for the company’s statement or the official circular. Those documents are more reliable than a summary.
One weekly habit of checking two sources will protect you from most rumours.
