Why scholarships ask for a percentage

Nigerian universities usually report results on a 5.0 CGPA scale, and many universities abroad use a 4.0 GPA. Scholarships often set a minimum grade as a percentage, so you need to convert your result before you can compare.

This converter uses a straight-line calculation: your grade divided by the top of your scale, multiplied by 100. It gives a clear estimate, but it is not an official conversion.

Before you enter your grade

  • Choose the scale printed on your transcript. If your transcript shows a different scale, use that one.
  • If a funder gives its own conversion table, use that table. Its figure takes priority over this estimate.
  • Enter the cumulative figure for your whole course where it is asked for, not the result of one year or one semester.

Frequently asked questions

Is this conversion official?

No. It is a straight-line estimate. A university or funder may publish its own table, and that table takes priority.

What is the difference between CGPA and GPA?

Both are averages of grade points. The main difference is the scale: many Nigerian universities use 5.0, and many US institutions use 4.0.

Which scale should I choose?

Choose the scale printed on your transcript.
